A hotly anticipated launch

Getting to help WIT Fitness and Reebok launch a new shoe together was a very cool experience, with some interesting constraints to work within.

Heavy lifting

The launch of a new shoe, in partnership with Reebok, was an incredibly big deal for our clients at WIT. This was the first time doing this where Reebok had actually put up some funds to market the launch, and we were driving a lot of the technology that made the launch possible. It simply had to work.

Producing a microsite to launch a new product would have been relatively simple, but WIT wanted to keep everything within their Shopify Plus platform, so we had to work with them to find an effective way to do lots of custom work that could be turned on and off within their platform. We ended up deciding on leveraging Shogun, a flexible page builder, and already part of WIT's ecosystem. This, partnered with custom components, enabled us to build out a completely custom launch day product experience for the new shoe, which solved the first half of the challenge.

The second half of the brief was to assist WIT in running a launch stream for the new shoe, with special appearances from popular crossfit athletes, a timed shoe reveal to tie in to the product going live on the website, and other interview segments. As WIT had no real experience with event streaming, they were nervous about running this themselves, and reluctant to do it live. They opted to pre-record the event, and then hand it off to me to make sure that the stream went live at the right time, and that everything worked properly on YouTube. Everything went off without a hitch, and WIT sold tens of thousands of pairs of the new shoes in record time as eager customers went from the livestream directly to the product page.
